Some background blurb…
November 29, 2006
I have been jamming sometimes casually but sometimes quite seriously, on and off for the past couple of years. Things sort of gained momentum ever since I met a nice group in downtown Toronto (meeting a couple of inspiring guitarists and a couple of good female singers). I try to sing. Or so I would like to think. Recorded a few songs as pure vocal solos and some accompanied with karaoke strips and one with keyboard arranged by my friend.
I also came across a few others who have done similar stuff on the web. One of them, a lady who sings in Tamil was a true inspiration. I basically want such hobby artists to share their stuff with the world, to receive meaningful feedback from others who are interested in Indian music, thereby have fun, improve and probably get an insight into what makes a real recording in the Big, Real World.
The result is jhankarBeats.com.
It is a platform for hobby/upcoming artists to upload their recordings, receive ratings on their songs, get feedback etc. I primarily am targetting Indian music forms and artists. That is because on a world music scale, the manageability aspects scale out a bit too much. Indian music by itself has too many forms and too many artists exist in India alone, who are deprived of encouragement, some motivation to run that extra mile. jhankarBeats hopefully covers that gap…
More later, enjoy!
